Manchester Airport is carrying out an extensive review of its parking arrangements after several taxi firms reported significant road traffic congestion around Terminal 2.

Taxi drivers have complained about standing traffic on routes near the terminal, leading to delays in picking up passengers. Abu Bakar from MCR Elite Transfers said the congestion has persisted for months, with some passengers waiting up to 30 minutes for collection.

Bakar explained the financial impact on drivers. "All of the time I am stuck in traffic means I'm losing money and my earnings are going to drop because of the congestion at the airport," he said.

Other taxi firms have raised similar concerns on social media about long queues on roads near Terminal 2.

Airport Response

Manchester Airport attributed the congestion to "a range of factors including lower passenger-to-vehicle ratios caused by greater numbers of couples and solo travellers arriving in cars compared to the summer months".

In the short term, the airport has deployed extra traffic marshals to help keep traffic moving. The airport is also working with Transport for Greater Manchester to change the timing of traffic lights in the area.

A spokesperson for the airport said: "We are carrying out an extensive review of the system to identify ways of mitigating these issues."
