Northern is introducing 37 refurbished air-conditioned trains on routes across Manchester and the wider North West from early 2028.
The new trains will replace the operator's ageing Class 323 fleet, which is nearing the end of its working life. Northern said the trains would provide more capacity and extra space for passengers, as well as luggage racks and power sockets on many routes.
What passengers can expect
Northern's managing director Tricia Williams said the trains would offer 'air conditioning, more carriages, more space and a more pleasant environment throughout'.
The refurbished trains are due to enter service from early 2028. This is ahead of Northern's planned introduction of up to 450 new trains from 2030.
