Young performers from across Manchester took part in a masterclass with actor and singer Oluwalonimi, known as Nimi, Owoyemi during October half term.
The Manchester-born performer joined Little Voices Central & South Manchester’s Theatre Camp at Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury on Thursday 29 October.
Owoyemi plays The Poet in the UK tour of The Choir of Man, which recently visited The Lowry in Salford.
Learning from a touring performer
The session formed part of a four-day theatre camp. Participants explored storytelling, vocal projection, dynamics and connecting with an audience, alongside expressing their individuality through performance.
Alison Dickinson, principal of Little Voices Central & South Manchester, said: “Having someone like Nimi, who grew up here in Manchester and is now performing professionally around the country, share his experience with our children was a fantastic opportunity.”
She said the camp also aimed to help young people build friendships and feel able to be themselves.
The workshop brought the experience of a professional touring production into a local setting, giving the young performers a chance to learn directly from someone working on stage.
