Four Indian classical musicians will perform at Manchester’s Stoller Hall on Friday 20 November as part of KalaSudha’s A Hundred Strings UK tour.
The line-up includes Manchester-based tabla player Ustad Shahbaz Hussain alongside santoor player Vinay Desai, sitarist Adnan Khan and tabla player Ustad Akram Khan. Manchester is the only stop on the tour to feature two tabla players.
Doors open at 6.45pm, with the concert running from 7pm to 9.30pm. The venue is inside Chetham’s School of Music at Hunts Bank, Manchester M3 1DA.
Santoor, sitar and tabla
Vinay Desai plays the santoor, Kashmir’s hundred-stringed instrument, and is a disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Adnan Khan, from Delhi, plays sitar in the gayaki ang style, which models instrumental playing on the singing voice.
Ustad Akram Khan represents the seventh generation of his family in the Ajrada gharana. Ustad Shahbaz Hussain lives in Manchester, teaches across the north of England and studied in the Delhi and Punjab gharanas.
The short UK tour also visits Oxford, Bournemouth and London.
