Manchester author Jordan Banks has released her debut spoken word and poetry collection, What She Went Through, exploring love, heartbreak, toxic relationships and experiences that can be difficult to put into words.
Released on 16 October 2026, the collection is written from a young woman's perspective. It explores relationships, body image and mental health, with Jordan hoping readers will recognise something of their own experiences in its pages.

Inspiration behind the collection
Jordan describes her spoken word and poetry as an attempt to write honestly about emotional struggles that many young women experience but may find hard to discuss.
"I wanted to create something honest and relatable that explores the emotional struggles many young women experience but often find difficult to put into words," she said.
"My hope is that readers will see their own experiences reflected in my poetry and feel a little less alone."
Jordan also wrote: “I hope you feel a little more seen with each word I have written, and a little less alone with each page you turn, because you’re not alone. We will get through this together.”
For the Manchester-based writer, publishing her first collection is a milestone in a creative journey centred on spoken word, poetry and personal expression.
The book looks at both the difficult moments in relationships and the process of moving forward. Its themes include love, toxic relationships, self-image, anxiety and healing.
